Diffuser blends for beginner

When I first got my diffuser, the very first eo that I added is lavender essential oil.

After a few nights, I decided to play around with the essential oils based on the recipe I found online. So far, I have yet to come across any combination that I love very much, and sometimes, I created some blends that my kids dislike, haha!

And then I start to google, and found out that I make a few mistakes.

#1 I did not test the aroma before I diffuse them.
#2 I did not synergize the essential oils together first when creating the blends.

So, please remember, if you are using the diffuser blends u get from reliable source, first thing to do is, remove the cap of the essential oils, hold them near to your nose and waft them back and fourth. This is to test whether you like the aroma.

After that, you may put the drops of essential oil into the 1ml sampling bottle (which comes together in your Premium Starter Kit). Shake well, and again, waft it under your nose, if the aroma is exactly what you like, you may drop it in your diffuser. Otherwise, you might want to test the aroma with other essential oil or just simply add 1 or 2 drops of the essential oil to meet your preference.

I referred to Young Living Blog post about five perfect pairs diffuser blends. I think this is a good start.

Thieves  Lemon

💧💧 Peppermint ➕ 💧💧 Lavender

Cinnamon Bark  Orange

Frankincense  Cedarwood

Eucalyptus Radiata  Rosemary

If you have purchased the Young Living Premium Starter Kits (PSK), you can try to play around with the first 2 pairings:
Thieves + Lemon
Peppermint + Lavender

Try it out and find out the exact drops of each essential oils that you love in your diffuser blend.

How to use Essential Oils?

My first impression on essential oils is that the aroma when it is diffused, it does not attract me much, because I am sensitive to smell. Normally I will walk away from stalls or shop selling this.

So, essential oils can be used aromatically through a diffuser.

I am using dewdrop diffuser which function as a humidifier, atomizer, and aroma diffuser. It is easy to use, just add 5-8 drops of essential oil in the water, and press the power button to turn it on.

Alternately, if you do not have a diffuser, just take a drop of the essential oil and rub it in your palms, then cup your hands around your nose and mouth and inhale slowly.

I also put it on cotton wool ball and keep inside wardrobe and drawers.

But after I get to know more about essential oils, only I realize that essential oils can be used topically too.

Yes, I dilute the essential oils in dropper bottles / roller bottles and apply it on my face. Just like applying face serum, you may refer to my DIY face serum post.

Besides, I also get my kids to rub eo on the bottoms of their little feet.

In fact, essential oil can be used internally too.

Young Living’s Vitality™  are safe for ingestion. However, I have yet to try it so not much to share here.

If you are a beginner like me, do remember LESS IS MORE! 😉

DIY serum for my face

I blog about adding essential oil to my skin regime and it really improved my skin after one month.

Face serum from Premium Stater Kit
After I got my Young Living Premium Starter Kit, I decided to upgrade my skin regime. My skin deserve a better serum 😇.

I mix 3 types of essential oil (3 drops each) in an 8ml roller bottle which is filled up with fractionated coconut oil. I used roller bottle instead of dropper bottle this time. I found it more handy. So, the ingredient of my face serum:

  1. Lavender essential oil - still adding it because it manage to calm my skin, less pimples breakout, less inflammation, heal faster;
  2. Frankincense essential oil -reduces the appearance of uneven skin tones, hoping that it can help with the scars; and
  3. Copaiba essential oil - Reduces the appearance of blemishes
With this new serum, I believe it can help me to reduces the appearance of blemishes and also lighten the scars.

Stay tuned, I shall update on my pimple fighting series here.

Fun session: Melt and Pour Soap Making

It has always been on my wish list to go for soap making class since 1 or 2 years back. But I never enroll myself to any due to the reason that I have no time.

And then I do not know why with essential oils, I went on to google how to make soap, then I start to look around and ask around to see where to buy the ingredients. There, I discover there is this melt and pour soap which is as easy as making jelly.

Called up my sister-in-law and asked her if she is interested, she likes the idea. So, we went on to source for the ingredients. All we need to buy is melt and pour soap base because we already have the essential oil to replace the scented oil.

I bought a pot for this purpose as I foresee that I will have a few session to play with it.

The steps:
  1. Cut the soap base and melt it at the stove (melt easily)
  2. Remove from stove.
  3. Add 5-10 drops essential oils of your liking (about 100ml soap base)
  4. Mix well and pour into the mold
  5. Let mixture cool down (about an hour)
  6. Take it out from mold.

Happy mom with happy daughter!

Thank you, gugu for joining us and helping us to take nice photos.

It is that convenient.

Dilution recommendation for KIDS and BABIES

I last posted about diluting lavender and peppermint essential oils for my kids. I thought it will be good to share with you the dilution recommendation I read up from Young Living Blog on Guide to diluting essential oils for kids and babies

Based on the dilution recommendation, the ratios are:
Age 0 - 1: 8 drops carrier oil to 1 drop essential oil;
Age 2 - 6: 3 drops carrier oil to 1 drop essential oil;
Age 7 - 11: 1 drop carrier oil to 1 drop essential oil; and
Age 12+: Full labeled concentration

To further read-up, you may visit Essential Oils in the Nursery

My dilution for my kids is heavier compare to the ratio above because I always keep in mind that less is more especially when my family and I have just started to use the essential oils, so all of them are new to us, it is better to be on the safe side to begin with less.

I also take the advice to test the diluted essential oil on inner wrist before using it. This is to see if the individual is allergic to it.

Rubbing essential oil on the bottoms of the feet for my kids

When I watched 《妻子的浪漫旅行2》,I noticed that one of the wives, who is also one of my favourite actress since young,  in the show is rubbing some kind of liquid on her soles every morning and before bed. I am curious to find out what is she doing or using.

I asked around and even googled about it, finally I got the answer, it is essential oil that she is rubbing on her bottoms of feet every day.

Sometimes, things just happen at the right time. Soon after that, I was invited to attend the essential oil sharing session. Haha.

And, the fact that my favourite actress is using essential oil is definitely one of the reason why I grow fond of essential oils immediately.

I googled and found out that our feet soles has larger pore than any other part of the body, and the essential oil can penetrate through our skin into the body faster.

I thought of improving my kids wellness through essential oils and this is the easiest way for me to use it on them.

I diluted lavender (3 drops) in carrier oil in an 8ml roller bottle to make this kid's friendly "sleep well magic potion", a name given just for fun. I get my kids to rub the oil on their feet soles every night before bedtime to calm them down and get good sleep at night.

I also diluted peppermint (3 drops) in carrier oil in an 8ml roller bottle to create "wake up magic potion" for my kids. It is for refreshing and focus purpose.
The kids have been rubbing the oils every day and night since I make the 2 bottles for them. They will ask for it every night.

I changed my son's magic potion at night to eucalyptus radiata diluted in carrier oil, a gift from my auntie. I rub it on the lung and chest area shown on the foot reflexology chart, hoping to improve his asthma symptom.

For my daughter, I rub the oil on the colon area, hoping that it will improve her digestion and put on some weight.

Just a bit sharing of how I use the essential oil on my kids who are aged 8yo and 11yo this year. You may refer to dilution ratios for kids and babies for more inforamtion.

Which Essential Oils that I am using?

I did mention it in my post Getting to know about Essential Oil that I started off with doTERRA Introductory Kit which contain Lavender, Peppermint and Lemon Essential Oils.

After a few weeks trying out, I decided to get the Young Living Premium Starter Kit with DewdropWhy Young Living and not doTERRA? Well, the most valid reason would be my sister-in-law, cousin and aunties are using Young Living essential oils, we can easily share information with each others. I did not do any serious studies to compare which essential oils are better except for the pricing. But, of course, their Seed To Seal® promise also telling me that the quality and purity of the essential oils that I get is of good standard. As a consumer, no doubt pricing is always a concern but if I can afford a slightly higher price and good quality and reputation, why not? We should always treat ourselves better. Anyway, this is just some sharing, you may not agree with me. Out there in the shopping malls, there are a lot more other brands of essential oil available with different price range which you can choose from. I wrote this post not to tell you which essential oils that I am using and in case you are wonder why the one you got if different from what I shared here, the reason could be even though they are the same lavender essential oils, but because they are from different source, the purity and quality could be different.

My first online purchase from Young Living. Besides from the Premium Starter Kit, I bought two essential oils and ART Gentle Cleanser. An extra bottle of essential oil is a gift from Young Living.

Removing sticker easily with Lemon Essential Oil

When the kids are young, they love to stick stickers everywhere, on the cupboard, wardrobe, drawers, bed frame, bottles, etc. After a while, the stickers are difficult to be removed. But by dripping 1 or 2 drops of lemon essential oil on a cotton pad and rub on the stickers, you will see magic, the stickers will be removed nicely without any stain.

This is a very good trick. Not sure how many times I cracked my finger nails when removing the stickers on certain bottle or container which I want to keep. Now, this can be easily done. Yay!

My LOVE - Peppermint Essential Oil in my shampoo

Peppermint Essential Oil is one of my favourite essential oils  because of its scent and cooling sensation.

I always wonder where to get the saloon shampoo with minty sensation. I never go search for minty shampoo seriously though.

Then on the day I was introduced to essential oil and get to know there is this peppermint essential oil, I know I must own it! To tell the truth, I right away know that I shall add it in my shampoo.

First time I use it, I pour the shampoo on my palm and add a drop of peppermint essential oil and use it right away. I love the minty sensation on my scalp. It is so refreshing. However, I am afraid that I am applying too much of it. So I pour out some shampoo (the amount is about enough for 5 wash) and add a drop of peppermint essential oil to it. I do not add it directly into my shampoo bottle because the bottle is made of plastic and my shampoo is not the organic type. I dare not to keep it long, but I want to dilute it further to be used, that's why I dilute 1 drop of peppermint oil in the amount of shampoo enough for about 5 wash.

I use it once or twice in a week. After 3 weeks of using it, I noticed the pimples hidden along my hairline is getting less. Scalp also getting healthier and not so oily.

I really wish that everyone can use essential oil and so that I can recommend this to everyone of you.
But sadly no, I was told that some people are allergic to essential oil. So please test it on your inner wrist first, it is better to test using the diluted one first.

Lavender Cotton Wool Balls

My husband and I spent Labour Day 💪 to reshuffle the furniture in my kids bedroom to make it more spacious.

After all the moving, we did one round of cleaning up too. Looking at the tidy and clean room💫, I thought of adding aroma by dripping 5 drops of lavender essential oil onto cotton-wool balls. I chose to use lavender essential oil because it can create soothing and relaxing atmosphere in the bedroom. Since my kids bed frames comes with drawers, I put the cotton-wool balls in the drawers. It can helps to repel insects too and give the clothing kept in the drawers a flora scent which replaced the synthetic air-freshener.

Now, whenever I walk into the room, I will be greeted with a light breeze of flower scents.

The lavender cotton wool balls will last for a week and you will need to drip some more essential oil to them.
